Offbeat Vol. 2 No. 4 – February 1966 – Tennessee Williams Guest Editor – Carroll Baker – Vintage Magazine

Original Offbeat Vol. 2 No. 4, February 1966, published by Beta Publications Ltd. A terrific mid-1960s oddball men's magazine combining sensational news, Hollywood, crime, social commentary and glamour.

A major highlight is Tennessee Williams as guest editor, with a full-page feature titled “I Like Old Sick People,” in which the celebrated playwright discusses writing, audiences, his characters and his career. Another standout is a Hollywood feature on Carroll Baker, “They’d Rather Strip Than Act.”

Other provocative period features include “Death to the Lusty Playboy” by Alec Ash, “The Most Vicious Parents in the World” by Marvin Greene, “When a Surgeon Goes Mad in the Operating Room,” “The Art of Wife Stealing,” “How Eyes Betray All Your Secrets,” and “Why Women Need Love Before Lunch.”

The magazine identifies the cover model as Adele Simon. Published monthly by Beta Publications Ltd., with editorial offices in Chicago and Montreal, and printed in Canada.

An unusual piece of 1960s counterculture-era ephemera with particular crossover appeal to collectors of Tennessee Williams, vintage men's magazines, Hollywood, pulp journalism and mid-century popular culture.
