Naked Nuts No. 1 – September–October 1968 – “A Madhatter Party!” – Phenix Publishers – Premiere Issue

Original Naked Nuts No. 1, dated September–October 1968, published bi-monthly by Phenix Publishers, Ltd., San Diego, California. Copyright 1968.

This is the first issue of an unusual late-1960s nudist/counterculture magazine, with a fantastic full-color cover announcing “A Madhatter Party!” The cover photograph captures a group party scene surrounded by the colorful clothes, hats and psychedelic décor of the period.

Inside, the magazine describes itself as an “educational publication of cultural and sociological commentary and documentation” devoted to nudism and its place in recreation, health, art and social life.

The featured Madhatter Party pictorial continues through both color and black-and-white photography, accompanied by wonderfully period text beginning, “It’s Sunday and they’re young. It’s summer and time for a party.” The back cover continues the feature under “The Young Nakeds Do It Again!”

Beyond the nudist-magazine crossover, this one has terrific late-1960s counterculture appeal: psychedelic fashions, party photography, unconventional publishing and a very distinctive graphic design. The Number 1 designation makes it especially interesting as the premiere issue of the title.

Condition: Excellet vintage condition for its age with expected handling and surface wear from an original 1968 publication. There is some light edge and corner wear and minor age toning, but the colorful front cover remains bright and presents very well. Please review the photos for condition and details.
