HELP! No. 25 – July 1965 – Harvey Kurtzman – Robert Crumb – Vintage Humor & Satire Magazine

Original July 1965 issue of HELP! magazine, No. 25, edited by legendary MAD magazine creator Harvey Kurtzman.

A fantastic mid-1960s issue of the influential humor and satire magazine that helped bridge the gap between the classic humor magazines of the 1950s and the underground-comix movement that exploded later in the decade.

This issue features an early contribution from Robert Crumb — “Bulgaria: A Sketchbook Report” — several years before R. Crumb became one of the defining figures of American underground comics.

Also inside:

Robert Crumb – Bulgaria: A Sketchbook Report

The Supper Club Caper – A HELP! Whodunit

Ward Kimball – Art Afterpieces

Arnold Roth – Poor Arnold’s Almanac

Dave Crossley – Sauna These Days

Wonder Wart-Hog Goes A-Freedom-Riding!

HELP!’s Public Gallery

Plus cartoons, photography, satire and offbeat humor throughout.

Edited by Harvey Kurtzman, with James Warren as publisher, Terry Gilliam as associate editor and Nicky Quist as art editor. An especially interesting piece of comics history considering Gilliam would later become a member of Monty Python.

The wild full-color photographic cover is pure mid-1960s HELP! — bizarre, funny and instantly recognizable.
